Son Lux release new single ‘No God Like A King’ ahead of Out Into

Son Lux have released “No God Like A King”, the third single from their forthcoming album Out Into, which arrives September 18 via This Is Meru/City Slang.

The trio of Ryan Lott, Rafiq Bhatia and Ian Chang built the track around a one-take band performance that was stretched and slowed down. The song addresses hypocrisy in America, and will close the new album.

Drummer Ian Chang says the group’s approach was partly informed by their interest in the feel of hip-hop production and in keeping a recognisably human element in the recording.

“We’re all fans of hip-hop — the boom-bap era in particular,” drummer Ian Chang says. “Stuff that has that gridded-but-not-gridded kind of feel. With our love for liquidy beats, we’ve always been drawn to the humanity in it. And with AI changing the music industry so much, we’re interested in making stuff where you hear the hand.”

Out Into developed from collective improvisation, with the band placing particular importance on the earliest versions of ideas rather than extensively reshaping them before recording.

The album follows a period in which Son Lux have worked extensively on film scores. The band composed music for 2022’s Everything Everywhere All At Once, whose score received an Oscar nomination, and worked on Marvel’s Thunderbolts* in 2025. Their recent soundtrack work also includes the upcoming Amazon MGM Studios project Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother.

Son Lux are currently touring, with dates scheduled across North America, Europe and Asia through 2026 and into 2027. Upcoming shows include Electric Brixton in London on October 29 and two nights at Pioneer Works in Brooklyn on December 18 and 19. Further dates in Asia and South America are also due to be announced.
