Positive Grid launches Spark PEDAL with built-in looper and 33 amp models

Positive Grid has launched the Spark PEDAL, a compact amp and effects unit designed for electric guitar, bass and acoustic players, with a built-in looper and support for the company’s Spark app and ToneCloud platform.

The pedal runs on Positive Grid’s HD Tone Engine, the same DSP architecture used in the Spark 2 practice amp. It includes 33 amp models and 43 effects, while users can also access more than 100,000 community-created tones through ToneCloud.

Spark PEDAL can be added to an existing pedalboard, connected directly to a PA system or used as an audio interface for recording. Players who want to continue using their own amplifier can bypass the pedal’s amp modelling and use it purely as an effects processor.

Controls are split between Amp and FX modes. In Amp Mode, the main knobs handle Gain, Bass, Mid and Treble, while FX Mode provides control over Drive, Modulation, Delay and Reverb. Six presets can be stored across two banks and accessed using the footswitches, with colour-coded LEDs showing modes, presets, looper status and battery level.

A built-in 60-second looper allows players to record, overdub and undo loops directly from the footswitches. The unit also includes a tuner, stereo headphone output and Bluetooth connectivity for playing along with music from a mobile device.

The rechargeable battery provides up to seven hours of use per charge.

Further controls are available through the free Spark app. Its features include Text to Tone, which generates tone suggestions from written prompts; Build Your Rig for arranging amps, cabinets and effects into a signal chain; Auto Chords for displaying guitar chords while music plays; and access to ToneCloud. The looper can also be controlled through the app.

Spark PEDAL is priced at $199 and is available through Positive Grid, authorised music retailers and Amazon.
