Dónal Gallagher reflects on life with Rory in new book Edged in Blue

Dónal Gallagher will share his memories of life on and off the road with his brother Rory Gallagher in a new book, Edged in Blue: A Rock ’n’ Roll Odyssey with Rory Gallagher.

The hardback is due to be published on 25 September 2026 and looks back at Rory’s career through the eyes of the person who was alongside him for much of it.

Dónal accompanied his brother from his early days on the Irish showband circuit through to an international career that took Rory across Europe, North America and beyond. The book draws on those decades together, including the demands of touring, encounters with other major musicians and the less public side of Rory’s life away from the stage.

Among the stories featured are shows affected by unrest and violence, including an occasion when Dónal had to retrieve Rory’s Stratocaster amid tear gas and disorder. The pair also completed 25 tours of the United States and Canada during Rory’s career.

The book arrives more than 30 years after Rory’s death and includes a foreword by guitarist Joe Bonamassa.

Former Republic of Ireland football manager Brian Kerr said of the book:

“Donal has given all of Rory’s fans a unique, sometimes hilarious and sometimes sad vision of life with the original of all Irish rock stars … The book brings me back to Rory’s amazing live gigs which enthralled thousands for rarely less than 3 full hours.”

The press material also credits Jamie Dickson, editor-in-chief of Guitarist Magazine, who has written extensively about Rory Gallagher and interviewed musicians including B.B. King and Roger McGuinn.

Edged in Blue: A Rock ’n’ Roll Odyssey with Rory Gallagher will be published in hardback on 25 September 2026.
