MESA/Boogie brings back the 90s Triple Rectifier Standard with 150 watts of tube power
MESA/Boogie has brought back the 90s Triple Rectifier Standard, complete with 150 watts, six 6L6 power tubes and its unmistakable Diamond Plate look.
MESA/Boogie has revived one of its best-known high-gain amplifiers with the return of the 90s Triple Rectifier Standard, recreating the two-channel design, 150-watt power section and Diamond Plate styling associated with the original.
Handcrafted in Petaluma, California, the new model follows the recent return of the 90s Dual Rectifier Standard and brings back the Triple Rectifier in its original-style configuration.
First introduced in 1992 alongside the Dual Rectifier Solo Head, the Triple Rectifier expanded the format with six power tubes and three rectifier tubes, giving players considerably more headroom and output while retaining the high-gain character that became closely associated with the Rectifier range.
The reissued 90s Triple Rectifier Standard uses a 150-watt Class AB power section driven by six MESA 6L6 power tubes, with a rear-panel Bias Select switch also allowing the use of EL34s.
Three 5U4GB rectifier tubes are used for the amp’s Tube Rectification setting, while players can switch to Silicon Diode Rectification for a firmer response and increased headroom. A BOLD/SPONGY power switch provides another way of adjusting the amplifier’s response and feel.
Its preamp returns to the direct two-channel layout of the earlier Rectifiers. Channel 1 offers Clean and variable Vintage high-gain modes, with the option to clone the Modern high-gain Red voicing. Channel 2 centres on the Modern Red mode but can also be switched to the Vintage Orange voice.
A Normal/Tight switch on Channel 2 provides additional control over the low-frequency response.
Each channel gets its own Gain, Treble, Middle, Bass, Presence and Master controls, while five 12AX7 preamp tubes handle the amplifier’s gain stages.
“For players who tune low and play loud, the Triple Rectifier delivers the massive, unmistakable high-gain sound that changed the way heavy music sounded—and continues to define it today,” says Andrew Ladner, Marketing Manager, MESA/Boogie. “We’re proud to bring the iconic 90s Triple Rectifier back in its original style. The two-channel Rectifiers defined a generation of high-gain tone; the 90s Triple Rectifier Standard delivers that same unmistakable character with the headroom and gain today’s players demand.”
Around the back, the amplifier includes a tube-driven series effects loop, global Output Level control when the loop is engaged, external channel and effects-loop switching connections, and five speaker outputs covering 16-, 8- and 4-ohm configurations. A Slave Output is also included.
Visually, MESA/Boogie has stayed close to the original Standard specification, with a black chassis, chrome Speed knobs, Black Bronco vinyl, black leather corners and the polished aluminium Diamond Plate grille closely associated with the Rectifier range.
The amplifier measures 25.4cm high, 64.77cm wide and 24.77cm deep, with a listed weight of 22.04kg. A one-button Channel 1/2 footswitch and fitted slipcover are included.
The MESA/Boogie 90s Triple Rectifier Standard is available worldwide through authorised dealers, Gibson Garage locations and MESA/Boogie.
