IK Multimedia Launches TONEX 2 Player 2.1 With New TONEX Rig Software
IK Multimedia’s TONEX 2 Player 2.1 adds the new TONEX Rig system, 76 effects and full Board rig creation, alongside a major firmware update.
IK Multimedia has released TONEX 2 Player version 2.1, bringing the rig-building capabilities of its TONEX Board hardware into its Mac and PC software for the first time.
The update arrives alongside TONEX Board firmware 1.1.0, which adds USB audio and MIDI support as well as a number of performance and workflow improvements for the floorboard.
At the centre of TONEX 2 Player 2.1 is TONEX Rig, a new optional software add-on powered by the TONEX Board Engine. It allows guitarists and bassists to construct complete rigs inside TONEX 2 Player before transferring those presets directly to a TONEX Board.
TONEX Rig offers a flexible 12-block signal chain with two paths, Split and Mix routing, stereo operation and support for as many as four Tone Models within a single preset.
That opens up considerably more complex configurations than a straightforward amp-and-effects chain. Users can, for example, place stomp captures ahead of amp Tone Models, combine different amplifier and cabinet setups, or create dual-amp, wet/dry, parallel and stereo rigs.
The software launches with 76 effects drawn from IK Multimedia’s AmpliTube collection, covering drive and fuzz, dynamics, modulation, pitch, EQ, filters, delays, reverbs and utility effects.
IK says additional effects are planned from as early as late October, with future effects being made available to TONEX Rig owners without an additional charge.
Complete rigs can also be shared through ToneNET. Players can create a preset in TONEX 2 Player, upload or download rigs through the platform and then move the same setup onto TONEX Board for recording, rehearsals or live use.
TONEX 2 Player version 2.1 itself remains a free update for existing TONEX users.
TONEX Rig is included for registered TONEX Board owners. For other users, it is available as a $/€99.99 add-on for eligible paid TONEX users, or $/€149.99 for TONEX CS users, excluding tax.
Alongside the software release, TONEX Board firmware 1.1.0 adds USB audio with four inputs and two outputs. These comprise two processed audio channels and two DI channels, while its assignable stereo output can be routed to the Board’s physical outputs.
USB MIDI support has also been added, expanding the Board’s ability to work with MIDI controllers, computers and recording setups.
Other changes include improved touchscreen response, reduced CPU load when using more demanding models, expanded Scene parameter control and a new Global Preset Spillover Bypass setting.
Users can now assign Input, Output, Split and Mix parameters to Scenes, double-tap effects in the signal chain to bypass them and access the tuner from the Settings panel. In Scene Mode, the tuner can also be opened by holding the currently active Scene switch.
Firmware 1.1.0 additionally introduces a SAFE MODE, activated by holding the HOME button, which locks the Board’s controls to help prevent accidental changes during live performance.
TONEX 2 Player version 2.1 and TONEX Board firmware 1.1.0 are available now through IK Product Manager.
