Graph Tech Adds Two New 7-String Un-Lock Nuts
Graph Tech has expanded its Un-Lock Nut range with two new 7-string models designed to simplify tuning and string changes on double-locking tremolo guitars.
Graph Tech Guitar Labs has expanded its Un-Lock Nut range with two new models designed specifically for 7-string electric guitars fitted with double-locking tremolo systems.
The new models replace a conventional metal locking nut with a pre-slotted Black TUSQ XL nut, removing the need for locking clamps and hex keys at the headstock. According to Graph Tech, the design allows players to keep using the guitar’s machine heads for normal tuning adjustments and makes broken-string changes quicker.
Two versions are available. The PU-6521-00 is an FR-style model with a 12-inch radius, while the PU-6522-00 is designed in an Ibanez-style format with a 16-inch radius.
The 12-inch model measures 1.887 inches (47.94 mm) long, 0.524 inches (13.32 mm) thick and 0.335 inches (8.52 mm) high, with 1.63-inch (41.4 mm) string spacing. The 16-inch version measures 1.887 inches (47.93 mm) long, 0.6 inches (15.25 mm) thick and 0.337 inches (8.56 mm) high, with 1.626-inch (41.3 mm) string spacing.
“Seven-string players often use different tunings and string gauges, so being able to tune at the machine heads and change strings quickly is a real advantage if they are using a tremolo stabilizer,” said Dave Dunwoodie, founder of Graph Tech Guitar Labs. “The Un-Lock Nut removes the unnecessary hardware and hassle at the headstock while giving players the tuning performance, tone and playability they expect from Graph Tech.”
Graph Tech says the Un-Lock Nut is substantially lighter than a traditional metal locking nut, comparing their respective weights to roughly one AAA battery and four AAA batteries.
Both models use Graph Tech’s triple-lubricated Black TUSQ XL material and feature extended string ramps and adjustable string heights. They arrive pre-slotted, are designed to work with most common string gauges and can be installed without permanent modification to the guitar, although some fitting and height adjustment may be required depending on the instrument.
The new 7-string Un-Lock Nuts are available now for $24.95 USD each through Graph Tech and authorised Graph Tech dealers.
