PRS and Defender launch John Mayer Silver Sky limited-edition guitars
PRS Guitars and Defender have teamed up with John Mayer on eight limited-edition Silver Sky guitars inspired by classic and contemporary Defender colours.
PRS Guitars has teamed up with Defender and John Mayer for a new collection of limited-edition Silver Sky guitars, taking its colour palette from classic and contemporary versions of the British 4×4.
The Silver Sky Defender Color Collection comprises eight finishes across the US-made Silver Sky and SE Silver Sky ranges. Four heritage Defender colours will appear on the Maryland-made model, while four contemporary finishes have been created for the SE version.
The US-made Silver Sky Defender Limited Edition will be offered in Arles Blue, Willow Green, Portofino Red and Sandglow Yellow, with 500 guitars produced in each colour worldwide.

The collection has a personal connection for Mayer, whose own Defender is finished in Arles Blue and has reportedly been in his collection for nearly two decades.
“Teaming up with Defender to offer the Silver Sky guitar in their legendary 4×4 colors is a dream come true. I’ve always chosen colorways based on objects and materials that inspire me in the world, and as a collector and lover of Defenders, this collaboration is the perfect crossover between two great passions of mine,” said John Mayer.
The four US-made guitars feature white pickguards and control knobs, matching painted headstocks and neckplates carrying the Defender logo and individual colour name. Each also comes with an exclusive hard case featuring Defender branding.
The SE Silver Sky Defender Limited Edition takes a more contemporary approach, with Petra Copper, Sedona Red, Carpathian Grey and Woolstone Green finishes.
Those models feature black pickguards and control knobs — described by PRS as a first for the Silver Sky — along with Defender-branded neckplates and an exclusive PRS/Defender gig bag.
Unlike the US-made models, production numbers for the SE editions are not capped. However, PRS says orders will only be accepted until mid-2027.
The guitars were previewed ahead of their official launch at Defender’s Destination Defender event in Temecula, California, which ran from September 11–13, 2026.
PRS is also producing a small number of Silver Sky Defender guitars in British Racing Green. Those instruments will not be sold commercially and are instead intended for fundraising connected with the Defender Service Awards and John Mayer’s veterans’ health charity, The Heart and Armor Foundation.
The Silver Sky Defender models are available to preorder through authorised PRS dealers.
