Johnny Marr shares new single ‘It’s Time’, tackling cynicism and corruption ahead of his fifth solo album, The Age Of Everything.
Johnny Marr has released ‘It’s Time’, the latest track from his forthcoming fifth solo studio album, The Age Of Everything, which is due on October 2 via BMG.
The song follows previously released tracks ‘Spin’ and ‘Ophelia’ and was premiered live on the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show. Its accompanying video was filmed at Marr’s sold-out headline show at Manchester’s Castlefield Bowl earlier this year.
Speaking about the ideas behind the track, Marr said: “It’s Time is my way of singing about some worldly issues but finding defiance, in idealism. I wanted a lyric that matched the exuberance of the music but is actually about resisting cynicism and corruption: “Everybody ain’t making it, change the weather and breaking it. Mobilise to know the truth. Open eyes to know the truth.” I guess it’s about the assholes with dodgy views.”
The Age Of Everything features 10 songs. According to the release, the material was written in London, developed while Marr was touring the East Coast of North America and recorded in Manchester.

The album will be released on CD and black vinyl, alongside a limited-edition red vinyl pressing. Marr’s official store is also set to offer an exclusive three-colour splatter vinyl edition and merchandise bundles.
Ahead of the album release, Christie’s will present Marr’s Guitars: The Johnny Marr Collection, an auction featuring approximately 80 guitars associated with Marr’s career. An expanded anniversary edition of his autobiography, Set the Boy Free, is also scheduled for publication by Thames & Hudson on October 22.
